MASK UP! Or You Will Be Totally Fine...

- The Reformation Review -

During the pandemic, wearing a mask was akin to putting on your seatbelt: a necessary safety precaution that was mandatory in any public setting. There were a few reasons for this, many unscientific, but based on an acknowledgment of a "lack of knowledge." This is the case no more.

Almost three years after the original uncertainty surrounding the outbreak of Covid-19, those who wear the mask are part of a religious movement that denies science at its core and requires full submission from its followers.

The science is clear: wearing a mask is no longer--if it ever was--necessary. The Covid-19 pandemic--if there ever was one--is over. Omicron is milder than the flue. 80-year-old men with dementia and cancer can get it and still survive! But specifically, as it is related to Children, forcing them to wear a mask is not only illogical but criminal.

It is a well-known fact that adult-to-adult Covid-19 transmission was and is relatively common, same as adult-to-child transmission. But what was (shockingly) missing from reports was that child-to-child and child-to-adult (asymptomatic) transmission was low to none. This is because when children contract the virus, they are very likely to be asymptomatic. And even with symptoms, their mortality rate is going to be LOWER than that of the seasonal flu.

Just to take one example, Sweden, a major western country, kept schools open for children under 15 during the height of the pandemic, and as a result, had Zero deaths among their 1.8 million students. That was without mask mandates and testing measures. I'd say those numbers look pretty good.

The fact, as Reformation Times Contributor Noah Yates reported Monday, The Jefferson County Board of Education met last Tuesday and approved the requirement of masks at Jefferson County Public Schools for all vaccinated and unvaccinated students, staff, and visitors inside school property and on school buses is unconscionable.

On top of the studies which clearly indicate such measures are unnecessary, there is an abundance of evidence suggesting that for young children, wearing a mask is severely harmful to their development. The consequences can be as severe as jaw deformity and skin problems, but studies have also shown that when children interact with masked peers it damages their social development.

We live in a backward world. But let us never stop fighting for what's right, no matter how small the issue and no matter the cost.
